Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found wide receiver Mecole Hardman for a touchdown to win the Super Bowl. Mahomes says his target didn’t even know he won it all when it happened.

In the aftermath of KC’s third title in five years, Mahomes was in a joke when he returned to the NFL Network to participate as Hardman spoke to the television.

‘Can I please tell you a short funny story? I threw a touchdown to this guy at the end of the game, and he looked at me and he had no idea,” Mahomes revealed.

“I said, ‘dude, we just won the Super Bowl.’ And he said he blacked out. He had no idea. I was like, brother…

“Because he didn’t even celebrate to begin with. I’m like, what are we doing?’

Hardman added, “When I see you running towards me, I’m like, OK, yeah, now it’s time to celebrate.”

It’s been a wild season for Hardman, who took a chance on himself and signed with the New York Jets this offseason.

But after getting little attention with Gang Green, Hardman was traded back to Kansas City. His goals haven’t improved hugely, but with this catch, Hardman is now entrenched in the team’s lore.

Mahomes later expressed his gratitude when addressing the press: “I don’t know if it was this week, man. I played with Mecole for a long time, man. He is always ready for the moment and he is someone who continues to practice hard and get better.

“And obviously, with that receiver rotation, we bounced around a lot of guys throughout the year, and those guys just keep working. And I mean, like the last Super Bowl, man, it’s like you never know who it’s going to be.

“It’s about everyone being ready for the moment, and he was ready for that moment on some big plays.”
