Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hopes teammate Travis Kelce's non-touchdown lateral will be on display when the 34-year-old is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“It's a legendary moment, man. It's not taught,” Mahomes said. “Something that only a few people in this world would even think about doing.”

“If he makes that play at that moment – makes the play, makes the catch, makes a couple guys miss and then throws the ball down the field to another guy and scores a touchdown at that moment – I hope they still make it let's see when he goes to the Hall of Fame,” Mahomes added.

'Because that is a legendary moment that we didn't really get to experience.'

The Mahomes-to-Kelce-to-Kadarius-Toney touchdown that gave the Chiefs the temporary lead over the Buffalo Bills with just over a minute left in Sunday's game was negated due to an offensive offside violation on the face from Toney.

Taking away the touchdown led to Mahomes having an outburst on the sideline, which included a few expletives and smashing a helmet. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid also said the call was embarrassing for the NFL.

The Bills held on to win the game, which could prove crucial in a tight AFC playoff race, after the rejected touchdown.

Mahomes' anger seemed to stem not just from losing the game, but from seeing a close friend and colleague robbed of a highlight moment because of a simple and costly mistake.

Replays showed Toney's right foot was offside by nearly three feet when the ball was run to Mahomes.

“That's a tight end in the Hall of Fame, causing a play in the Hall of Fame to not be shown because (the officials) threw a flag for an offensive offside,” Mahomes said.

“It not only detracts from this game this season, but from the legendary career that Travis has had,” Mahomes continued. “That hurts me, because I know how hard he works for it.”

Kelce's night is likely to have taken a positive turn after the game, when he was pictured leaving hand-in-hand with girlfriend Taylor Swift.

The pop superstar flew to Kansas City to see Kelce on Wednesday, just days before her 34th birthday, as the couple's relationship continues to go from strength to strength.
