Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs land in snowy Denver after travel chaos before NFL finale

The Kansas City Chiefs have landed in Denver after a day of travel chaos that saw their flight to Colorado delayed for hours.

The back-to-back Super Bowl champions face the Broncos on Sunday in their final regular season game of the NFL season.

After a winter storm left them stranded on the runway for four hours, the Chiefs finally left Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes was among those seen disembarking from the plane in snowy Denver on Saturday night.

The quarterback will be rested for the game against the Broncos, with the Chiefs already securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

There was some doubt about whether Mahomes would travel with the team, as he and his wife Brittany are expecting their third child “any day now.”

According to Fox4 News, the Chiefs were originally scheduled to leave for Denver on Saturday around 2:45 p.m. But meIt wasn’t until around 6:30 PM ET that they finally left.

The storm led to “rapid ice accumulations” and forced authorities to close the airfield at Kansas City International Airport – before the Chiefs could depart.

Andy Reid’s team will take on the 9-7 Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 PM ET. It’s usually only a two-hour flight from Kansas City to Denver. But their travel games encountered a new problem on Saturday.

According to Fox4 News, the airport’s de-icing machine malfunctioned, delaying flight departures.

Some planes, it was said, were even diverted to Omaha, Nebraska – more than 500 miles east of Denver.

According to reports, the Chiefs tried to change their travel plans to leave earlier in the day.

But the charter plane that transported them to Denver arrived late in Kansas City, forcing Reid and Co. to stick to their scheduled departure time.

Shortly after 5:30 PM ET, it was announced that the runways would soon reopen “and resume normal operations.”

Travis Kelce could also sit out Sunday’s game, as the Chiefs had already secured a bye in the playoffs.
