Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be WITHOUT new weapon Hollywood Brown for Week 1 clash against the Ravens
- Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown signed a one-year contract with KC this offseason
- But he will start the season on the sidelines after suffering an injury in pre-season
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be without new weapon Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in Week 1 against the Ravens, the team has announced.
Brown injured himself in his pre-season debut for the team, suffering a left shoulder injury (officially a sternoclavicular dislocation) against the Jaguars.
NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reported on August 13 that Brown would be out 4-6 weeks due to the injury, so it’s possible the speedy receiver could return in Week 2.
Additionally, it can be seen as a positive that he is not on the team’s PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, which would rule him out for the first four games of the season.
The 27-year-old was injured after catching an 11-yard pass from Mahomes over the middle and was tackled to the ground by Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown.
Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown will miss at least the first game of the season for the Chiefs
Mahomes and the Chiefs open their season on Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens
He has not practiced this week, ahead of the Chiefs’ season opener on Thursday.
Kansas City then has ten days before facing the Bengals on September 15.
Head coach Andy Reid previously compared Brown’s injury to an injury Tyreek Hill suffered against the Jaguars in 2019, as Eric Edholm of NFL.com wrote.
Hill, who now plays for the Dolphins, missed four games with the ailment.
Brown has missed a total of eight games over the past two seasons.
He signed a contract with Kansas City worth $11 million.
