EXCLUSIVE: Patrick Gibson shares the wild night he had with The Portable Door co-star Sam Neill when they first met and reveals what it was like working with the actor on the film.
Irish actor Patrick Gibson has spoken candidly about working on his new Stan fantasy The Portable Door, alongside Sam Neill, Miranda Otto, Sophie Wilde and Christoph Waltz.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Friday, the 27-year-old Shadow and Bone star said he had a lot of fun filming the movie, which centers on his character interning at a mystical and magical company in London.
Patrick also recalled the first time he met Jurassic Park star Sam, 75, saying Sam took him and a few members of the cast and crew to a local RSL club for a fun night to help break up the ice.
The movie was shot in Queensland, but is set in the UK.
“The first time I met Sam, we’d get text messages in a group chat and he was like, ‘Okay, let’s go to an RSL club,’ and we went to see a Queen tribute act,” Patrick revealed.

‘It was a lot of fun and the first time I’ve been to Australia. We had an amazing team. And a lot of talent working on it. And it’s a lot of fun to be back, added Patrick.
Talking about the star-studded cast, he joked that working with his co-stars was like a “nightmare.”

“I think maybe we mistakenly tend to focus on what’s next, but I’ve had so much fun with so many different things and different genres and dramatic stuff as well, but getting to do this was really special.”
The Portable Door was directed by Jeffrey Walker and adapted From Tom Holt’s popular 7-book fantasy series.
Patrick plays intern Paul Carpenter in the film and said he loves that fantasy movies “give you a chance to escape into another world.”

“I love fantasy stuff, especially stuff like this that is based on the real world and has that element of magical realism,” he said.
One of the film’s themes is the idea that “nothing is a coincidence” and Patrick said it adds an interesting layer to the film.
I’m pretty open minded about that stuff, I’m fascinated by what’s going on underneath everything we see. Adding that element to a fantasy story is a lot of fun.”
Stan’s original film, The Portable Door, opens April 7 on Stan.
The film also stars Miranda Otto, who looked amazing at the Sydney premiere on Thursday.
