Patrick Beverley has been suspended by the NBA for four games without pay to start next season after pointing a basketball at people in the crowd several times last Thursday during Game 6 of the Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff series against the Indiana Pacers.

The length of Beverley’s suspension was also determined based on his actions against an ESPN reporter during the subsequent media availability, where she was told she could not interview him because she was not subscribed to his podcast.

Beverley will have to serve the suspension next season because the Bucks have already been eliminated from the playoffs by the Pacers.

Beverley, 35, is under police investigation for aggressively throwing the ball at fans. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The report has been forwarded to IMPD detectives, who are currently investigating the situation and are taking all allegations seriously,” IMPD said in a statement. “Investigators are working with Gainbridge Fieldhouse to review video footage and plan to speak with the involved parties.”

Beverley has apologized for both sets of actions following the Bucks’ season-ending loss to the Pacers a week ago.

Beverley’s first throw into the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd appeared to miss its mark and hit a woman in the head. After a nearby fan lobbed the ball back to the 14-year veteran, Beverley threw a powerful chest pass into the stands.

Because Beverley appeared to have gotten into an argument with someone in the crowd after his aggressive throw, the escalation led to security intervention.

During the Bucks’ post-game locker room availability, Beverley bizarrely out of the blue asked ESSPN reporter Malinda Adams if she had subscribed to his podcast. When she said no, he replied, “Then you can’t interview me. No disrespect.”

As another reporter tried to ask Beverley a question, he told Adams to “please get that microphone out of my face,” while physically touching Adams’ microphone several times.

When Adams turned it back to him to get his answer, Beverley told her, “Please get out of the loop if you’re not subscribed to my podcast. I can appreciate.’

Even with Beverley’s apology, which Adams said he received, along with condolences from the Bucks organization, the longtime NBA star will be banned from appearances on the mega-sports network, according to Front Office Sports.

Beverley had just six points in 40 minutes in his final game of the season, the fewest of any Bucks starter in their elimination game.

Beverley will be an unrestricted free agent this season, with his suspension and actions likely factoring into his next contract.

Beverley has only played for Milwaukee since a February trade from the Philadelphia 76ers.
