Patnaik lays the foundation stone for a Rs 3,000 cr textile factory in Cuttack | India News – Business Standard

“Choudwar was developed as an industrial hub in the 1950s by former chief minister Biju Patnaik. Today, a new history has once again emerged in Choudwar,” Patnaik said.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 3,000-crore Welspun Group’s Integrated Textiles Manufacturing Facility and Warehousing Complex at Choudwar in Cuttack district.

The proposed complex is expected to create employment for more than 10,000 people in and around the Choudwar region.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said that once the complex comes up, Choudwar will regain its glory as the textile hub of Odisha.

“Choudwar was developed as an industrial hub in the 1950s by former Prime Minister Biju Patnaik. Today, yet again, a new history has emerged in Choudwar,” Patnaik said.

The CM also said that cotton farmers in Kalahandi, Bolangir, Rayagada and Gajapati districts will benefit from the complex, which will also provide employment to women. “Women are getting skills training,” he said.

The state industrial department and the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL) had made a proposal for setting up a textile factory in Odisha to Welspun Group chairman BK Goenka during the Make In Odisha program in 2022, he said.

Goenka said, “We are grateful for the support and commitment of the CM and the Government of Odisha. Their commitment to fostering an environment conducive to industrial growth and development has been instrumental in bringing our project to fruition .Through the Integrated Textiles Manufacturing Facility and Warehousing Complex, we aim to create a world-class textile ecosystem in Odisha and continue the legacy of Biju Babu.”

He said Welspun Group is also committed to improving the quality of life in Choudwar by developing various facilities for the public.

The Orissa Textiles Mill (OTM) in Choudwar, once the largest composite cotton mill in eastern India, was co-founded by Biju Patnaik. Welspun Group’s investment will revive industrial growth and development in the region and directly support the growth of cotton farmers across the state, an official said.
