Pat Cummins has launched an extraordinary attack on Lord’s members after their hostile altercation with the Australian cricket team during the Ashes, with the captain describing the patrons as ‘chops’.
There were ugly scenes at the Home of Cricket during this summer’s dramatic series, with members taking issue with Alex Carey’s controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow on the final day of the second Test – where the Aussies emerged victorious.
Usman Khawaja and David Warner were involved in a verbal back-and-forth with the members, who were accused of ‘getting physical’ with the players as they returned to their dressing room.
Several members also allegedly directed various expletives at the players, calling them a “disgrace,” “liars,” and ordering them to return home.
And Australian skipper Cummins has brutally berated the members, calling them ‘chops’, despite insisting he became ‘immune’ to their criticism.

Controversy erupted in the Lord’s clubhouse when Australian players exchanged verbal blows with members
“Maybe I’ve become immune to it,” he said via the Western Australian. “The worse they ranted, the more I realized it doesn’t matter because they look like chops.
“If I felt there was any truth to what was said, or if it was said by someone I respected and not the crowd, maybe it would have been different.
“I didn’t feel it was too hard. It was pretty clear that it was over and we behaved really well.
“I saw a lot of people go through and get really excited, and then I looked at our team and I thought everyone was brilliant, calm and measured.
“I was quite happy to be on our team. And I felt quite comfortable with our position.’

The incident came during the second Test of the Ashes with Australia winning to take a 2–0 lead in the series.
England would bounce back to series level and the chance of a historic comeback was denied after the Fourth Test at Old Trafford was washed out by rain.
Stuart Broad then angered Australia after being involved in the controversial claim of Marnus Labuschagne’s wicket during the final Test.
