Tiny detail in photo of Brisbane Broncos NRL stars Pat Carrigan and Jordan Riki living it up in Bali drives footy fans wild almost a year after it was taken
A selfie of two NRL stars holidaying in Bali has left football fans angry over a small detail, after the photo resurfaced almost a year after it was taken.
The photo of Brisbane Broncos players Pat Carrigan and Jordan Riki relaxing on the Indonesian island after the 2023 season was re-posted on Monday by Channel Nine commentator and Canterbury Bulldogs football team general manager Phil ‘Gus’ Gould.
The two-time premiership coach and former NSW Origin coach was up to some mischief after the Bulldogs beat the Broncos 41-16 in Brisbane 11 days ago.
“Brah the season isn’t even over and the Brisbane Broncos are already in Bali,” Gould captioned the selfie with the hashtag #MadMonday.
But Gould’s well-meaning comment prompted hundreds of responses from observant fans who spotted Carrigan’s black-painted toenails in the photo.
The two stars were photographed half-naked, sitting on the stairs of their accommodation.
“I’m not entirely sure about this whole painting your nails thing as a man,” wrote one commenter.
Another added: ‘What is it with young men painting their nails these days?’

A third wrote: ‘Oh cute, Jordan painted Paddy’s toenails,’ wrote a third.
A fourth joked: ‘That’s how the hot boys in the competition roll Gus. And they get their nails done there while they’re at it.’
Others had doubts about the color of Carrigan’s toenails.
“Keep it up, guys. Maybe next time you can use pink nail polish or no nail polish at all,” someone said.
“What’s with the black nail polish,” wrote another.
Others stood up for Carrigan and Riki.
“Jealous of handsome men,” one woman wrote.

Some posters took Gould at his word that the selfie was new, but others were quick to point out that it was a selfie from last year’s off-season, sparking outrage.
“As a sports commentator and supposed sports master, this is a bit childish,” said one commentator.
‘Phil Gould, this photo is from the pre-season. Don’t spread misinformation to get likes,’ wrote another.
The Broncos followed up their loss to the Bulldogs with a 46-18 defeat to Queensland’s arch-rivals, the Gold Coast Titans.
With four games remaining in the regular season and the Broncos sitting 14th in the table and six points outside the top eight, Carrigan and Riki could be back in Bali within weeks.
