Patrick Beverley says he received a death threat from an Oklahoma City Thunder batboy over Russell Westbrook’s injury in the 2013 NBA Playoffs…while revealing that police were guarding his house!
Patrick Beverley has revealed that his life was threatened by an Oklahoma City Thunder batboy after a collision that injured then-Thunder star Russell Westbrook.
Beverley, now of the Los Angeles Lakers, was a vital part of the Houston Rockets during the 2013 NBA playoffs as his No. 8 team played the No. 1 Thunder.
OKC fans were outraged after Westbrook’s injury in the first round of the Western Conference, given his importance to the team alongside fellow principal Kevin Durant. It seems that one of the teams on the field was not immune to anger either.
“I had a ball boy who threatened to kill me,” said Beverley on his self-titled podcast.

“I’m going back to Houston,” Beverley continued, before describing what his then head coach told him.
Kevin McHale says, “Hey buddy, watch out for the media. Word has it Westbrook is out.”
‘I don’t even know what happened, do I? They made the big story. … I’m going to OKC next game – cops out front.
“They put a police car in front of my house in Houston. I arrive at the hotel. I’m lying alone on the floor, policeman at the door.
‘I’m watching. I go out in the morning for tea or coffee, like a Starbucks, police officers with me.
“They hand out papers with a young man’s face on them, so big. He threatened to kill. The s*** was real.’
Oklahoma City went on to win the series in six games, largely without Westbrook, who suffered a season-ending torn meniscus in Game 2’s clash with Beverley.
Beverley went in for a bargain just as a timeout was called, causing Westbrook to slam the announce table in frustration.
OKC advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals before losing 4–1 to the No. 5 seeded Memphis Grizzlies.
Westbrook and Beverley have feuded over the years, but have since smoothed things over as teammates of the struggling LA Lakers.
The once-bitter duo have now begun to show appreciation for each other as Lakers teammates
