A post on Twitter left people feeling quite salty about their pasta of choice after a photo of fourteen different types was uploaded in August
The types under discussion are: penne, elbow, conch, spaghetti, cavatappi, tortellini, rotelle, tagliatelle, ravioli, fusilli, gemelli, farfalle, rigatoni and fettuccini.
From elongated, rope-like shapes to spiral, curved, tubular and denser textures, each of the fourteen pasta types can be combined in endless ways to create unique, delicious meals – but some people say not.
Hundreds of pasta lovers took to the comments to defend their favorite varieties, with some taking a more objective approach to determining the most versatile of the bunch.
Some revealed that tortellini was their favorite type of pasta, with one person writing, “Anything but tortelli is incorrect,” while another said, “Tortellini and ravioli are only acceptable answers.”
Three specific types of pasta seemed to take the ultimate top spot among people's overall favorites: farfalle, ravioli, and rigatoni.
Dozens of people expressed their love for Farfalle, with one person writing: 'Farfalle. It's not even close,” while another exclaimed: “Farfalle!!”
Meanwhile, a number of people with a penchant for rigatoni wrote comments like “2 pints for rigatoni,” “It's a mile and a half of rigatoni,” and “Rigatoni/penne/farfalle.”
One ravioli fan wrote passionately about the denser types of pasta: “Ravioli and that's no contest. The only thing that comes close is gnocchi.'
Meanwhile, some were impartial in choosing their favorite, basing their love of the carbs on which sauce each best paired with.
One wrote: 'Depending on the sauce you drink with it,' while another explained: 'Fusilli for sauces like Bolognese, penne for creamy sauces and spaghetti if I'm feeling fancy.'
Earlier, in October, a communications expert revealed the deeper meaning behind your favorite pasta shape.
Hundreds of pasta lovers took to the comments to defend their favorite varieties, with some taking a more objective approach to determining the most versatile of the bunch
To mark World Pasta Day on October 25, communications coach Robin Kermode, from Lancashire, combined classic pasta shapes with personality types – revealing that penne lovers tend to be unapologetically practical – but never boring.
Meanwhile, research from Prezzo found that Ravioli fans tend to be the single ones in the friendship group.
The healthy choice of pasta was compared to the Bridget Jones of pasta, but Kermode urged ravioli lovers never to be ashamed of their favorite choice.
