Passengers reveal ‘hack’ to get better seats on planes, but people have already noticed a problem
- TikTok user @cheapholidayexpert claimed to have saved €64 with ‘travel hack’
- However, users have responded by raising a potential problem with this tactic
A TikTok traveler has claimed to have discovered a new ‘hack’ to get better seats on planes.
TikTok user @cheapholidayexpert claimed to have saved €64 while being able to buy a seat with extra legroom on WizzAir flights.
The account’s alleged ‘travel hack’ involves waiting to book your seats once check-in for your flight opens, hoping the most sought-after spots become available.
However, from replies to the snippet from others, there may already be a problem if you try this before your flight.
Following the video, which has been viewed more than 320,000 times, one user said: ‘I did that on a Wizzair flight. In the end there were no seats available due to an overbooked flight. better without legroom than no flight at all.’

Explaining why the ‘hack’ could work, Cheap Holiday Expert said in the video’s caption: ‘Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air actively give travelers who don’t pay for seats the worst seats on the plane.
‘This means that when check-in opens 24 hours before your flight (it opens earlier if you have paid for a seat), there is a good chance that you will be given a middle seat, a seat in the middle of the plane or at the very back , and/or they may split you and your traveling companion.
‘Why? Well, you still have the option to pay to change and that’s exactly what they want you to do!
‘If you leave much later, you are more likely to get the GOOD seats that are left because of the costs.’
To allay some concerns that flights could be overbooked, and if you wait too long to book you could be left without a seat, the account said: ‘There is a small chance that if you check in at the last minute you will be left without a seat.
The video advises travelers not to book their seats as soon as check-in opens, explaining: ‘If you leave much later you are more likely to get the GOOD seats that are left behind due to costs’
The account offered advice on how to avoid being left without a seat for your flight: ‘I tackle this by checking available seats throughout the day – I often find that around 8/9am there are still good seats left are!’
‘This doesn’t happen often – and if it does, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t fly, even though the airline will have to find a passenger willing to transfer to another flight (they get compensation too) . ),’ it added.
It gave advice on how to avoid the above situation: ‘I approach this by looking at the available seats throughout the day. I often notice that around 8/9 o’clock there are still good seats left!’
Others have praised the move, with one user replying: ‘Why??? Why did you tell people about this? I’ve been doing this for years and I always get the best seats.’
Another said: ‘Nooooo. This should remain a secret!!!!! Been doing it for five years.’
