Desperate passengers are demanding answers from the New Jersey Transit Corporation after they became trapped in a train car that derailed as it pulled into Penn Station.

In a tweet, a passenger wrote: “@NJTRANSIT got stuck in the derailed train car.

“It’s not reassuring that your people are coming saying they have to figure out how to get us out of here and talking about the climb down.”

NJ Transit said train service to and from Penn Station has been suspended due to a “minor low-speed derailment.”

“Midtown Direct service is being diverted to Hoboken,” they tweeted.

One passenger complained that they had not heard any news: “What’s happening at Penn Station? We’ve been stuck in the tunnel for 20 minutes. No PA system in our car.’

Others filmed the chaos on the platform as disgruntled commuters made alternative travel plans.

A few photos reportedly taken aboard the derailed service show people packed like sardines into the train car as they wait for help.

Firefighters told resident that the remaining train will be moved to track 8 for ‘precautionary reasons’ while emergency services are on site.

There have been no injuries at this time CBS News reported that there were approximately 1,500 customers and crew members on board.

Midtown Direct service was rerouted to Hoboken and tickets will be honored by PATH on Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, 33rd St-NY and buses.

NJ Transit told the outlet that a Northeast Corridor train left Trenton at 7:32 a.m. and would arrive at Penn Station at 8:49 a.m.

At 8:55 am it derailed just before reaching the station.
