A passenger was found dead in an aircraft toilet during a flight from Tenerife to Manchester.

During the trip on Tuesday, fellow travelers on the Jet2 plane noticed that the booth had been locked for some time, prompting them to alert staff: The Mirror reports this.

Upon opening the door, the crew made the shocking discovery that the man's head had died, and the plane instead landed at Cork Airport in Ireland.

“Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester was diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday 2 January as a customer required medical attention,” an airline spokesperson told the Mirror.

'We can unfortunately confirm that the customer has sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly trained crew, who intervened as soon as they became aware of this.

'This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts.

“Our thoughts are with the customer's family and friends at this very difficult time.”

One passenger on board told the newspaper that their husband noticed the toilet door had been locked for some time “and he said he thought he was dead.” Tragically, he was right.”

The passenger said the crew was initially dismissive of their spouse before finally checking the booth. They believe the person was traveling alone.

They added that the plane was due to land in Manchester at 8.30pm on Tuesday, but passengers would have to wait for another plane in Cork, which would eventually arrive at 1.30am.

Tuesday's incident comes 10 months after another passenger died on a Jet2 flight traveling from Turkey to Glasgow, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.

The 44-year-old man died on March 7, 2023 during the Jet2 flight en route to the Scottish city from the Turkish resort of Antalya.

The cabin crew quickly acted and performed CPR on the man while the plane was still in the air. They gave the man chest compressions for 40 minutes in an attempt to revive him, but staff were unable to prevent his death.

One of the passengers on the plane told the Daily Record at the time: 'We were about 40 minutes away from landing and the next minute all the cabin crew started running to the seats behind me. A man had been pulled up the aisle and they were trying to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

'The pilot came by to tell us that we had to make an emergency landing due to a medical incident on board. We had to land with all our cabin lights on and it was pretty scary because you know that's pretty dangerous.

The unnamed passenger said cabin crew were still trying to revive the man during the emergency landing.

Other passengers cried and were shocked by the death, they said.

'When we landed, paramedics arrived and they were on the plane for about half an hour before people were released.

“Everyone on the plane was very upset, but the Jet2 staff were so professional and respectful during the incident,” the passenger added.
