In some pretty major news for the foam fandom, developer and publisher Square Enix has announced a release date for the upcoming foamy 4v4 party shooter Foam stars.

Confirmed in a recent press release, Foam stars will launch on February 6, 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. At launch, the game will be free to download and play for all PlayStation Plus members as part of the monthly PS Plus line-up.

If you’re a PS Plus subscriber, you can redeem it until March 4, 2024. The game will then go on sale on March 5, 2024 for $29.99, but you’ll still need an active PS Plus subscription to play. a new trailer has been released alongside the reveal of a release date, which you can watch below:

After the launch, Foam stars receives seasonal updates with optional Battle Pass-style season passes that allow players to progress through reward tiers for additional items by completing missions. These cost $5.99 each and offer those who choose to purchase them immediate access to newly added characters.

For anyone who isn’t completely caught up in the hype and might need a quick refresher, Foam stars is a 4v4 party shooter that seems to have a very different take on the game Splatoon formula. Coming exclusively to PS5 and PS4, it features PvP multiplayer modes that challenge teams to cover different arenas in foam and defeat their opponents. All the action takes place in the soapy town of Bath Vegas and is all part of a fictional competition called Foamsmash.

The game has been confirmed to feature both team-based PvP and co-op PvE modes, including the option to play randomly Team missions alone or with others, which sounds like a pretty large amount of content to master right away.
