Party at a short-term rental near Houston turns deadly overnight

Three people were killed Sunday night after a gathering at a short-term rental home turned deadly near Houston, Texas.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said officers responded to a 911 call around 2:15 a.m. in a suburban area in Katy, Texas, just 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Houston.

β€œIt was a very active scene. It was very chaotic when the deputy arrived,” Gonzalez said at a news conference Sunday morning.

Gonzalez estimated that about 10 to 20 youths were gathered in a temporarily rented home before the shooting. The sheriff did not yet know if one or more people opened fire, but indications were that it happened inside and outside the home sometime around 2 a.m.

When the first deputy arrived, two people had already died at the scene and another person would later be confirmed dead at a hospital. The victims are believed to be in their 20s, but their exact ages or identities were not confirmed Sunday morning.

The sheriff’s office said they were still gathering information and seeking information from the public to find those involved in the shooting.
