Young man is shot dead in Parramatta – as police launch an urgent investigation as two others flee the scene

A young man was shot dead in Parramatta this morning, while two suspected gunmen are still on the run. They are said to have fled in a stolen car and then set it on fire.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., emergency services were called to Harold Street following reports of a shooting.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a man, but he died at the scene.

He has not yet been officially identified, but is believed to be 29 years old.

Approximately 15 minutes later, at 3.45am, firefighters were called to Abeckett Street, Granville, a ten-minute drive away, following reports of a car fire.

A sedan, which had been reported stolen, was engulfed in flames.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire.

“Police have established a crime scene and have launched an investigation into the incident. It is understood two males were seen leaving the scene in another vehicle,” a New South Wales police spokesperson said.

“The investigation is ongoing and it is not known whether the two incidents are related. However, the fire is considered suspicious.”

Detectives are urging anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage relating to the incidents to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
