Parramatta NRL star Dylan Brown cops long suspension and fine after pleading guilty to groping woman

Eels star Dylan Brown could be back for Parramatta’s finals campaign, despite the NRL hitting the playmaker with a notice of offense proposing a seven-match suspension and a hefty fine following an incident at Double Bay last month.

Brown pleaded guilty to two charges of sexually touching another person without consent last week at the Downing Center Local Court for an incident that took place at the Golden Sheaf Hotel.

The 23-year-old was given a community correction order and now faces a lengthy suspension following an investigation by the NRL integrity unit that has proposed a seven-match suspension and a $40,000 fine, half of which was suspended.

As Brown was unable to play three games for the Eels under the NRL’s discretionary stand-down policy, it has been proposed that those games count towards the suspension, meaning he will miss a further four games.

He could return on lap 23.

“The NRL will not tolerate unlawful conduct of any kind, let alone offenses against women,” said NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo.

‘The education and training requirements will be specifically aimed at rehabilitation and prevention.

“It will also reinforce Dylan’s responsibilities as an NRL player, particularly the responsible consumption of alcohol and the impact his behavior has had, especially on the victim, but also on others, his club and the game as a whole.”

The NRL also suggests that Brown be ‘directed to undertake and complete education and training as advised by the NRL’.

If he fails to complete training or violates the code of conduct within the next 12 months, Brown must pay the full fine.

Parramatta responded to the message with a statement saying his club would “work with the NRL in the coming days to finalize this matter”.
