Woman who fell from a seventh floor unit was seen clinging to a balcony just seconds before she plunged to her death – as grim new details emerge

A woman who plunged to her death from a seventh-floor apartment was recently seen by shocked witnesses clinging to a balcony.

Emergency services were called to a unit block on River Road in Parramatta at around 1.40am on Thursday.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the woman, believed to be 39 years old, on the street with serious injuries.

Despite attempts to revive the woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene. She has yet to be formally identified.

NSW Police said a 40-year-old man had been arrested.

Chief Inspector Barry Vincent, commander of Parramatta Police Area Command, revealed the man had an AVO carried out against the victim.

It also emerged that a triple-0 call was made from the apartment at 11.45pm, during which police could hear ‘raised voices’ in the background.

Police called back and eventually spoke to a man at the residence who gave out his name and location, while officers said they would visit the apartment.

A forensic examination has been carried out at the balcony crime scene in Parramatta, western Sydney, where a woman is believed to have died in the early hours of Thursday.

However, they didn’t get there before the 1:40 a.m. triple-0 call.

“Shortly before 1.40am police received calls from a neighbor of the River Road unit block following reports of a female subject hanging from a balcony,” Chief Inspector Vincent added.

“That call was received at 1:40 a.m. and at 1:41 a.m. our officers responded to that scene, where they located a woman in the driveway of an apartment building and immediately began CPR. Despite their efforts, the woman died on the spot.”

Chief Inspector Vincent revealed there had been ‘previous interactions’ with police and the couple in question.

Uniformed officers were also seen questioning residents as they left and arrived at the residential tower on Thursday.

A neighbor who lives on the balcony six floors above the crime scene heard a ‘piercing’ scream at 12.47am.

“I was half asleep watching TV in our sitting room and I heard a distinctive female scream,” he said.

‘I immediately called my partner, who was in the other room, to ask if it was her.’

The man ignored the noise and went to bed, but understood the gravity of the situation when he was greeted by officers blocking off the street later that morning.

“I think she (the victim) ended up in the flower bed,” he said.

‘It’s so terrible. The innocence of the building has completely disappeared.’
