Paris Hilton is taking credit for the recent Barbie-inspired fashion craze that’s been deemed “Barbiecore.”
The 42-year-old DJ has been a trendsetter since she burst onto the scene in the 2000s and claims she started dressing in the pink spirit of the Mattel doll long before Margot Robbie took over the silver screen in the blockbuster Barbie.
“I was going for the Barbiecore vibes before the word Barbiecore even existed,” she explained during the British Vogue Life in Looks video released on Thursday.
“I invented it,” she insisted. ‘Barbie is my idol. She’s such an icon. I’ve looked up to her all my life.’
To prove her point, Paris pointed to the photo of her wearing a deep pink minidress to the opening of the Maxim Lounge in Las Vegas in 2001. She completed the look with a handbag featuring a photo of a Barbie doll.

Patented: “I invented it,” she insisted. ‘Barbie is my idol. She’s such an icon. I’ve looked up to her all my life.”
“This was a pink Versace dress that Donatella gave me and my pink Barbie bag that I got at FAO Schwartz in New York,” Paris added.
The new mom — who recently clapped back at critics over the size of her son’s head — then discussed a few other red carpet looks from that era, which often included her favorite accessory: Tinkerbell the dog.
“When I moved to New York, I didn’t have a stylist, an agent, a publicist, none of that. “I did it all by myself and I loved taking my little Tinkerbell everywhere,” she said.
“It was so much fun dressing her because she looked like my first daughter. She was my best friend, my sidekick, my other half. I miss her so much.’
Another BFF she dished was Nicole Richie, who rose to fame alongside Paris when they made their debut on the reality show called The Simple Life.
“It was 2003 and Nicole and I were on set doing the first photoshoot campaign for The Simple Life,” she said while still watching a promo.
“One day I got a call from my agents and they said they wanted my sister and I to go to the middle of nowhere and live on a farm and have our phones, money and everything taken away,” she started.
‘And my sister Nicky immediately said no. The first person I thought of was Nicole Richie. She’s been my best friend since we were two years old.’

‘And we had so much fun with these looks. It was very like country, but sexy. Lots of Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. There were no reality shows at this time. This was the first, the show was the start of everything.”
While filming the show in 2005, Paris and Nicole famously had an argument.
The very public feud would make the fourth season of The Simple Life their last together.

Breakup: While filming the show in 2005, Paris and Nicole had an argument.
In 2005, Paris opened up about the rift, but provided little insight into what actually happened between the young stars.
“It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends,” Paris said in a statement at the time. “Nicole knows what she did, and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.”
A few months later, Nicole then discussed her side of the story, claiming that they “just grew apart.”
A year later, the couple was spotted having dinner together in West Hollywood, proving that their beef had been put to rest.
