Preamble

Good morning everyone and welcome to the 2024 Paralympic Games – day one!

As you might expect, there is a lot of wonderful sport ahead of us and we are soon on our way.

Kadeena Cox, winner of gold in both cycling and track and field at the Rio Olympics, is hoping to retain her 500m time trial title despite injuries and illness hampering her build-up, while Daphne Schrager is aiming for gold in the C1-3 individual pursuit.

In the pool, Tully Kearney and Suzanna Hext will be looking to retain her S5 100m freestyle title. Olivia Newman-Baronius, Poppy Maskill and William Ellard will all be competing in the S14 butterfly. And Brazil’s Teresa Perales, a 27-time Paralympic medallist, will be looking to reach the S2 100m backstroke final at the age of 48.

Then tonight we have the men’s T11 long jump, and Petrucio Ferreira, also from Brazil and the world’s fastest Paralympic runner, who is looking to win T47 100m gold again. On y va!
