Report of the last day: If you think our intrepid reporters on the ground in Paris on the final day of the Games threw up their cobblestone legs and tore up Châteauneuf-du-Pape as if it were past its sell-by date, you’d be mistaken. very wrong:
That is very useful. Want to know exactly who won what in what time, when and where? We have it for you:
What were the best moments of the 2024 Games? Do you agree or disagree? What did we miss and what was not there? everything that? These things will not be open to discussion. Feel free to voice your opinion by dropping an email in the mailbag.
It’s not really about the final medal tally, is it?
As we count down to the main eventI’ll be sharing some of our reports and features from the final day of action in Paris. TV coverage of the event on the Beeb doesn’t start until 7pm. Countryfile is currently on Channel One, airing its weekly Sunday night dose of existentialism. What am I doing with my life, living in a one-bedroom flat in South London when I could be herding adorable sheep and living in idyllic rural bliss in Herefordshire? sort of thing. Maybe it’s just me? Channel 4 is airing a decidedly un-Olympic ‘Secret World of Crisps’ and ITV is airing Harry Potter for the BILLIONTH time.
Anyway – this is a better option than all of the above – The snappers at The Guardian have put together a stunningly beautiful collection of photos from the past two weeks. Enjoy.
Preamble
James Wallace
It’s done. Well, almost.
Can you believe it’s only been two weeks since Paris 2024 kicked off? So much SPORT has happened since then that it feels like an eternity since the eyes of the sporting world were focused on a somewhat misty and murky Seine and the athlete flotillas.
Celine Dion’s performance of Edith Piaf’s Hymne a l’amour rescued what had been a somewhat haphazard opening ceremony and set the tone for the triumph of the next two weeks. It was a cracker, wasn’t it?
We’ll have plenty of time to discuss the thrills, spills, highs, lows and favourite moments over the next few hours. Get in touch using the details on the left of the page to have your say on everything that happened and also to comment on what the closing ceremony has in store. I can’t do this alone, believe me.
Will the Olympic baton transfer from Paris to LA go smoothly or will there be a leak or two in the pipes? It seems likely that Tom Cruise will rappel down from the roof of the Stade de France stadium and that Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers and HER will perform. As it stands, NaturallySnoop Dogg, the Paris 2024 superfan extraordinaire. Let’s hope it’s not Snoop who’s got the metaphorical baton pass down, he’s been known to drop it… Oh, I can’t even do that.
French musical royalty Air and Phoenix will also provide the musical accompaniment for what artistic director Thomas Jolly has promised will be a “science fiction dream-like immersive journey through time.” You didn’t hear it here first.
All that and much more in the coming hours – the official start time of the closing ceremony is 20:00 BST and the end is scheduled for 22:30 BST. I’ll be here for the duration. Let’s play the Games to begin near!
