Heartbroken parents of Melbourne doctor Ash Gordon allegedly stabbed to death in a terrifying home invasion share a brutal message – and reveal the harrowing way they found out he’d died
The distraught parents of a Melbourne doctor who was allegedly stabbed to death have revealed the harrowing way they found out he had died – and made plans to relax bail laws.
Dr. Ash Gordon, 33, died in the early hours of January 13 after his home in the eastern Melbourne suburb of Doncaster was allegedly broken into.
He chased the alleged intruders out of his home and followed them by car to Elidon St, about 500 meters away, where he was fatally stabbed.
Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with the doctor’s murder. One of them had been released on bail after breaking into another house armed with a machete a few months earlier.
The teenager, who was out on bail at the time, is accused of leaving another man with serious head injuries after allegedly robbing his home in October.
Gordon’s parents pleaded with Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan to reconsider planned youth justice reforms, which would relax bail laws for young offenders.

Dr. Gordon’s mother Catherine told the story A current issue she wanted to see a change in bail laws, while his father Glen said he was “tired of all these politicians (who) never do anything.”
When she learned the alleged killers were both 16 years old, Ms Gordon said her reaction was: ‘Where were the parents and what were they doing roaming the streets at five in the morning?’
Her husband added that the “Victorian government is a disgrace. If that is their way of thinking, they should resign from office.”
When told that Victoria’s Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes had said she didn’t want to discuss a youth crime crisis that doesn’t exist, Glen responded: ‘What planet are they on?
‘They are certainly not part of ours if it is not a crisis. That’s a cowardly response from them. That’s all I can say.’
Mr and Mrs Gordon also said they initially didn’t believe it when their son’s flatmate called them to tell them the tragic news that he had died.
“He said Ashley was gone. And I said: where to? ‘He is gone. He is no longer with us,” Catherine said.
“I said, ‘Don’t lie, you’re joking.’ And I hung it up.
‘Then the detective called. And I told him I didn’t believe him… So then I hung up.
‘We saw the police car coming and I prayed to God that they would drive through.
“I didn’t want them pulling into the driveway. But unfortunately it happened. That’s right,” she said through tears.
Dr. Gordon’s sisters Natalie, Kerry, Tammy and brother Brad are still struggling to come to terms with the shocking death of their beloved sibling.

“He was just the sweetest little brother ever,” Tammy said.
“And whoever did this, they need to pay into the justice system, they’ve gone so soft on crime and that needs to change.”
‘I don’t think it has dawned on me yet. I’m just angry every day,” Brad said.
‘Something has to change. (The) justice system needs to be fixed,” Natalie said.
