Parent ‘ruins’ daughter’s life by not giving 11-year-old a new iPhone 15 Pro Max – who DO YOU think was right?
It’s a dilemma many parents have faced: their child wants the latest smartphone that costs an eye-watering amount of money.
One father found himself in the debacle after refusing to buy his 11-year-old daughter the latest Apple iPhone 15 Max Pro, which costs $1,119.
The young girl – who owned an older version – had asked for a new smartphone since her friends all have one, but the battle started when her father suggested an iPhone 13.
“My daughter got mad at me and said I was ruining her life and that her best friend has a 15 Pro Max,” he shared in a Reddit post with more than 9,500 comments from others rushing to his defense.

The post was shared on the r/AmITeA**hole forum on Monday, where he revealed the details and asked for help from the internet.
The unnamed user, Able_Texas5286, explained that his daughter requested the iPhone 15 Pro Max, saying “all her friends have new phones.”
He believed the iPhone 13 was “a good option” because of its decent camera and battery life.
“She specifically wanted the iPhone 15 pro max because it apparently plays console level games and has a 120Hz screen,” the message reads.
‘My daughter is a gamer and always complains that her phone can no longer play games properly because it is old.’
While the young girl insisted on the latest smartphone, her parents saw this as a waste of money.

But the father said he and his wife are still considering purchasing the iPhone 15 Pro Mx, telling their daughter, “It’s a great gift.”
He ended the post with “AmITeA**hole?”
Thousands of people left their thoughts in the comments, with the top saying: ‘Hurry up, if you haven’t heard ‘you’re ruining my life!’ more than once by the time your child is eleven, you are not doing your job.”
Another Redditor told a story about their 10-year-old wanting the $45 Stanley Cup, to which the parent told their daughter that she already had two functioning water bottles.
“Well, more specifically, I went into lecture mode about financial literacy and how she didn’t need one until her others needed to be replaced. She said I made her feel guilty and that my goal in life was to make her miserable,” the message reads.
Some comments gave the father advice on how to handle his situation.
‘Who is the parent? Don’t let your daughter make you feel guilty about anything, an iPhone 13 is still a new and good phone,” the Redditor wrote.
Thousands of people left their opinions in the comments. This is the most resentful comment
“Your daughter is at an age where she’s comparing herself to her friends and you don’t want her to think she needs everything everyone else has.
“If you can afford her an iPhone 15, I honestly think you should create a way for her to ‘earn it’ so she doesn’t learn to expect to get what she says.”
Another user stated that an 11-year-old doesn’t need an iPhone Pro 15 Max for any reason, “other than she wants it.”
Some commentators seemed callous
Some commentators seemed callous.
“If a life is ruined by not having an iPhone 15 pro max, maybe it should be ruined by a rude awakening,” one person shared.
Another Redditor echoed a similar sentiment: “An eleven year old doesn’t need a thousand dollar phone.
“Careful… you’re well on your way to raising an entitled brat.”
Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro Max in September, which boasts some impressive features, including a new action button, a titanium finish and a USB-C charger.
The smartphone has the new A17 Pro chip that the company is touting as an unlocking feature next-level gaming experiences,” which was part of the daughter’s case for why she should buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
