A student left a paraplegic after a horrific skiing accident has impressed millions by showing how he handles everyday tasks now that he’s in a wheelchair.
Jimmy Jan, 22, broke his back on August 9, 2021 at Perisher Ski Resort after performing a high speed incorrect jump, landing on his head and crushing his spine.
He told his fans how he changes his wheelchair ‘shoes’, a job that needs to be done at least once a year.
Although Jimmy said that changing the tires on his wheelchair was the same process as changing the wheels on a bicycle, it was no easy task, but he managed to complete the task while laughing at his confusion.
Jimmy shared the process of changing tires in an online video, and viewers were blown away by the little-known challenges that come with living in a wheelchair.

Jimmy Jan became a paraplegic after a horrific skiing accident and has shown followers how he changes the tires on his wheelchair in a hilarious online video.
The medical student’s tires were so worn they squealed every time he changed direction and didn’t grip when he applied the brake.
“Worst of all, when I drive, they squeak and it’s very annoying. I just want you to imagine moving every day and every time you change direction you hear this,” Jimmy said on a TikTok. shorten while its wheels screeched across the ground.
‘It’s annoying isn’t it? That’s why I bought new shoes. The wheels are like the feet of a wheelchair, so I assume the tires have to be the shoes.’
Jimmy explained that the wheels were similar to those on a bicycle, but joked that it had been a long time since he’d been on a bike, let alone changed a tire.
“I’m sure there are some riders looking at this and thinking ‘wow, this guy is not doing any of this correctly’ and if that’s the case, please let me know because I’m interested in learning,” he said.

“This is also something I’ll have to do for the rest of my life, so if I’m doing something wrong, tell me now.”
Jimmy had to deflate and remove the old tube and tire, fit a new tube, and inflate it once the new tire was on top.
“You know what makes me mad, I’m going to edit this into a two-minute video, but you’ll never know how long I spent on this,” he laughed before revealing that the first wheel had taken him almost half an hour to replace.
Once the new tires were installed, Jimmy took his new and improved wheelchair for a spin around the kitchen and tested the brakes that now held the chair solidly in place.

“I’m ecstatic right now, so quiet… now I can sneak up on people,” he joked.
Jimmy’s clip has been viewed more than 2.4 million times and had many comments in stitches, while others admitted they didn’t know wheelchair tires needed to be replaced.
‘Why did it never occur to me that wheelchair users need to replace their tires?’ asked a viewer.
“I always assumed wheelchair tires were solid. I enjoy learning from you and I love your great attitude to life. Good luck, friend,’ said another.

“Honestly, this is cool to see because I didn’t know wheelchair wheels were like bicycle tires. I thought they had solid wheels,” a third replied.
“Every time I watch your video I think ‘wow his apartment is empty’ but then I realize it has to be,” someone else commented.
Enthusiastic motorcyclists applauded Jimmy’s effort, saying he looked like he “knew what he was doing.”
‘As a bike technician you are doing very well! Those tires are much more difficult to change than your average bicycle tire. Super awesome,” wrote one man.
‘Hello! I’m my friends’ token bike mechanic. It sounded like you knew exactly what you were doing! a second agreed.
Jimmy also gave insight into how he drives a car, saying that his vehicle has been customized to include hand controls after an incident that nearly ended in disaster.

While the car had buttons for the accelerator and brake, it still includes the standard pedals under the steering wheel.
shared another video when he thought the car was failing because it would suddenly take off but he didn’t realize he had his foot on the gas.
Jimmy said that when he starts his car, a button that “activates the manual controls” starts flashing.
He noticed it wasn’t blinking so he assumed it was a problem with the light, but when he pulled the car out of the parking lot and put it in reverse, he “stopped” it backwards.
The hand throttle wasn’t responding, and when Jimmy put the car in gear, it lurched forward.
Fortunately, Jimmy braked in time so the car didn’t crash in either case and he soon realized it was because he had accidentally stepped on the accelerator.
“That was quite the crisis,” he joked as he slowly backed the car out of its parking space.
Onlookers were in awe of Jimmy’s driving gaffe and were grateful that the incident did not lead to an accident or injury.
‘So…you can drive with your foot…as long as you never need to stop…’ one quipped.
I’m glad you didn’t get hurt! a second said and a third laughed ‘HAHAA I’m actually gasping even though I’d be PANICING’.
It gave me a heart attack to see your foot on the accelerator. Man don’t do that again we don’t want to lose you,” wrote another.
