Pamela Anderson reveals she had ‘depression for a couple of decades’ while discussing her career resurgence

Pamela Anderson admits she suffered from depression for ‘a couple of decades’ when she attended the Zurich Film Festival.

The 57-year-old actress was present at the festival to present her new film The Last Showgirl and he also received the Golden Eye Award at the Swiss film festival.

She revealed she was happy to still be working and receiving this award, before admitting she was depressed early on.

“Watching it now, I feel like I went from ‘Baywatch’ to Broadway. I don’t know what happened in between, it’s all a big blur,” she began.

“I’m just happy to be here right now because I think I’ve had depression for a few decades,” she said.

‘I never thought I would stand on the podium and receive such an award. I just want to keep working. I’m excited to do more,” she admitted.

Her revival began with the 2023 documentary Pamela, a Love Story, along with her memoir Love Pamela.

“Ryan [White] created that document and that’s how Gia saw me. “I always knew I was capable of more,” she says.

“It’s great to be part of pop culture, but it’s a blessing and a curse. People fall in love with you because of a swimsuit. It took a long time, but I’m here,” she said.

She added that she grew up as a ‘naughty child’ and she started dreaming big thanks to her Finnish grandfather.

‘He really stimulated my imagination. He made me realize that you are not just an extension of your parents or a small town you grew up in,” she said.

She also spoke about her humble upbringing in British Columbia, saying, “When you grow up on an island, people don’t leave. And when you leave, people talk. I’ve given them plenty of material to fool me. No charge.’

‘My first scene was with David Hasselhoff. I was playing the saxophone and he looked at my forehead. “I had no idea what to do,” she said.

‘I tried to go back to things that happened in my childhood. I could ‘smell’ my house, cigarettes and alcohol, and it was important to look for that. I tried to get my strength back. “I bought my grandmother’s house and I repainted and rewrote my life,” she said.

She read the script for “The Last Showgirl” and said that project was “life or death” for her.

‘I was sitting in my overalls, with my straw hat on, thinking, “Get me out of here, let’s do this!” She added that she was “terrified to meet co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.

‘She came to the reading table in her spray tan and as she talked to me she got darker, and darker, and darker. Now I feel like I’ve known her all my life. She grabs you by the shoulders, looks you in the eye and says, ‘We got this, girl!'” she said.
