Pamela Anderson lands starring role in The Naked Gun reboot alongside Liam Neeson – 30 years after iconic franchise with Leslie Nielsen ended

Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has been cast in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Naked Gun reboot.

The Canadian-American actress, 56, will star opposite Liam Neeson in the untitled remake, which is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.

The script was written by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and Schaffer, the trio behind the live-action film Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which won a 2022 Emmy for Outstanding Television Film at the Creative Arts Emmys this Sunday.

Akiva Schaffer, who co-wrote the draft screenplay with Gregor and Mand, will act as director and executive producer.

Schaffer, Gregor and Mand wrote an updated version of the script from the previous version with contributions from Seth MacFarlane, Mark Hentemann and Alec Sulkin.

The new film will be based on the popular Naked Gun film franchise and television series Police Squad! created by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker starring the late great Leslie Nielsen.

So far, little is known about the story for the reboot, but it’s likely that the famed team of writers will cleverly incorporate the “very specific skills” Neeson acquired while playing his action hero character over the years, including Bryan Mills in the film. Taken Franchise (2008-2014).

While fans will have to remain patient to see exactly how far filmmakers will go in poking fun at Neeson’s own action-man image, he takes over for Nielsen, an acclaimed actor and comedian who passed away in November 2010 at the age of 84 .

The Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada native had a 60-year career dating back to 1950, during which he appeared in more than 100 films and 150 television programs, while playing more than 220 characters.

Meanwhile, Anderson famously starred in 110 episodes of her hit series Baywatch (1992-1997) and films such as Scary Movie 3 and Superhero Movie.

Most recently, the author teamed up with Netflix for a documentary about her life, titled Pamela, a Love Story, which was released last year.

Fans were first introduced to Nielsen as Franklin “Frank” Drebin in the ABC spoof comedy television series Police Squad! (1982).

The series was a parody of police procedurals and featured the use of jokes, puns, and exaggerated comedic humor during its one-season run.

Although the show was canceled after just six episodes, it would be followed six years later by the hugely successful film series, with Nielsen returning as Lieutenant Frank Drebin, and Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy and OJ Simpson in supporting roles in all three films.

The Naked Gun: From the Files Of Police Squad! received critical acclaim upon release. (1988) also became a major commercial hit, grossing $152.4 million against a budget of just $12 million.

David Zucker served as director and co-writer while working on the script with Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Pat Proft.

The original film version has since been widely regarded as one of the greatest comedy films of all time.

For the first sequel – The Naked Gun 2+1⁄2: The Smell Of Fear (1991) – David Zucker directed the production after co-writing the script with Pat Proft.

It was an even bigger commercial hit, grossing $192 million at the box office on a budget of $23 million.

Peter Segal would take over director’s duties for the last of the trilogy – Naked Gun 33+1⁄3: The Final Insult (1994) – with David Zucker, Proft and Robert LoCash as writing team, and would go on to earn $132. million out of a $30 million budget.

MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing the new reboot through their company Fuzzy Door and are expected to begin principal photography before 2024.

Although the Naked Gun reboot won’t be released until next summer, the original 1988 Nielsen film is currently streaming on Paramount+.
