Special tribute awards will be presented to several industry celebrities, including Denis Villeneuve receiving the Director Tribute for Dune: Part Two and Angelina Jolie receiving the Performer Tribute for Maria.
The awards, presented by the Gotham Film & Media Institute, reward and nurture independent film and media makers and provide crucial recognition for emerging and established talent.
Pamela’s new film is directed by Gia Coppola, granddaughter of The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola and niece of Lost In Translation filmmaker Sofia Coppola.
Gia revealed that she was inspired to cast her leading lady after watching her 2023 Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story.
The documentary, released around the same time as her memoir Love, Pamela, had her baring her soul about her career, her relationships and the trauma of the scandal when the Tommy Lee sex tape was stolen and leaked.
While watching Pamela’s documentary, Gia was “so impressed with her knowledge of arthouse cinema, art and philosophy,” she said. Term.
‘I saw a woman bursting with the will to express herself creatively.’
However, when Pamela’s agent received the script for The Last Showgirl, he neglected to even run it by her before turning it down.
“He didn’t think it was good for me,” Pamela said. ‘He didn’t think I could do it. At that time I was not offered anything. But in a way I had also given up.’

However, Pamela and Tommy’s son Brandon Thomas Lee came to the rescue when he found the screenplay in his mother’s agent’s office.
Brandon, who had produced the Netflix documentary that inspired Gia to send Pamela the script, then brought The Last Showgirl to his mother’s attention.
Pamela said she read the screenplay and “I felt it. I had to do it. I felt Shelly immediately. I knew it was right. There’s something karmic about it, because if Brandon hadn’t made that documentary and Gia hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t be doing this.”
After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September to a warm critical response, The Last Showgirl will hit theaters on December 13.
