Palworld sells 1 million copies in eight hours, developers say

Palworldthe game, which looks like “Pokémon, but with weapons,” was released on Friday and is already one of the biggest releases of the year.

According to its developer, Pocketpair, the game sold more than a million copies within “approximately” eight hours of release. Pocket pair shared the impressive sales figure via Xbut added no further clarification on what that sales number entailed. Palworld launched for both Steam and Xbox Games Pass, so it’s unclear if that number includes copies of the game that Xbox Game Pass subscribers download as part of the service.

Polygon contacted a Pocketpair representative and asked the team to clarify what the sales number meant. We will update the article as soon as we hear back.

Regardless of whether the sales number counts Xbox Game Pass downloads or not, Palworld has had an absolutely huge release day. According to Steam Charts, the game has more than 340,000 concurrent players on Steam as of Friday afternoon, surpassing other popular titles like The battlefields of PlayerUnknown And Baldur’s Gate 3.

Palworld has been generating buzz for quite some time now. In fact, it was notable for the contrast between its cute creatures and brutal conditions – previous trailers showed its cute monsters fighting military-grade machines and creatures toiling in factories. It basically looks like a militarized Pokémon game, but with added survival elements.
