Paloma Faith postponed her London show at the last minute due to medical reasons.

The 42-year-old singer revealed on social media that she has been diagnosed with strep throat, which is caused by a virus and prevents her from singing.

Just hours before the show, she took to Instagram and canceled the performance – which was due to take place at Eventim Apollo – telling fans it would be rescheduled.

Paloma wrote on Instagram: ‘It is with great regret that I have had to postpone my show in London tonight.

“My team is working on a date to reschedule the show and as soon as it is announced I will let you all know. I have been diagnosed with a throat infection caused by a virus and am physically unable to sing.

“The tour has been one of the greatest experiences of my career so far. I’m devastated, performing for you is my favorite thing in the world. I would also like to thank those of you who have flown in from other countries or traveled long distances. I am very sad and very sorry.

“It has been taken out of my hands, I have been told that I must listen to the medical professionals so that I can return to act for you without causing long-term damage.”

She signed off by adding: ‘We will know within the next 24 hours if I can continue with Cardiff & Brighton.

‘All my love Paloma xxx’

It comes after Paloma revealed she is considering quitting the music industry.

The Glorification Of Sadness hitmaker said she ‘might release one more record’ before turning her talents towards switching her career for something else.

I talk to Jamie Laing about his Nice company podcast, she admitted she could drop the mic and become a teacher.

Under some pressure from her mother, Pam Oakes-Ash, Paloma said she is pushing for her to make the jump so she can spend the summer holidays at home.

Paloma, who shares two daughters with her ex-husband Leyman Lahcine, said: “My mother always tells me to train to become a teacher.”

Paloma continued, “She said, ‘You’ve had kids, you’ve done the pop star thing. Go and do PGCE [teacher training] because then you can have the same holiday as your children.

‘I’m considering it. Maybe I’ll release another record.’

Elsewhere in the podcast, Paloma also opened up about the breakdown of her marriage to French artist Leyman, 36.

She believes resentment was the reason her nearly decade-long partnership came to an end.

The singing sensation said: “Resentment, because I think there was a difference between what I put into it and him.

“But I say on the album there’s a spoken part where I say I know it’s my fault.”

Paloma announced the shocking split in November 2022.

What is strep throat?

Laryngitis is caused when the larynx or vocal cords in the throat become inflamed. Normally the condition does not require medical treatment and resolves on its own within fourteen days.

The main symptoms are:

  • a hoarse (cracking) voice
  • sometimes losing your voice
  • an annoying cough that won’t go away
  • always having to clear your throat
  • a sore throat

Patients with laryngitis are advised to rest their vocal cords and not to speak at all, even in a whisper.

Doctors recommend drinking plenty of water and gargling the throat with warm salt water.

Patients are advised to avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine as these can cause dehydration.

A pharmacist can also advise on over-the-counter treatments, such as paracetamol, for dealing with high temperatures.

If the condition does not improve, or if it becomes painful or difficult to swallow, patients are advised to consult their GP.

They should also see their doctor if the strep throat infection keeps coming back.
