Paige Thorne posts ill-timed snap of herself on a bus stop at Carnival… after shelter collapsed

Paige Thorne has shared an ill-timed snap of herself partying on top of a bus stop at Notting Hill Carnival, after revellers nearly crushed passersby doing the same thing.

The Love Island star, 24, took to her Instagram and Stories on Monday to document her day partying at carnival with her co-star Antigoni Buxton and other pals.

In one post, Paige shared an array of snaps showing herself dancing and sitting on the roof of a bus shelter with a group of other revellers.

She had earlier posted a snap of herself posing and shared it on her Stories writing, ‘what I actually post’, and then shared the bus stop snaps with the caption ‘vs reality’.

But her ill-timed post came shortly after a group of Notting Hill revellers nearly crushed people standing underneath a bus stop when the shelter collapsed.

Video footage, taken on Sunday, showed a group of carnival-goers standing on top of a bus stop when it collapsed, with the revellers luckily escaping with minor injuries.

A huge crowd watching people on top of the Kensal House shelter on Ladbroke Grove were heard gasping and exclaiming in shock as it gave way and the partygoers fell onto the pavement, nearly crushing four people below.

Two people suffered minor injuries but did not need further treatment after the incident, which came at the end of ‘family day’ which saw bright and dazzling costumes as the procession returned for the first time since 2019. 

Commenting on the incident, a statement from Metropolitan Police read: ‘We are aware of a video showing a bus shelter collapsing in #LadbrokeGrove area. 

‘Officers responded. Two people sustained minor injuries. They did not require further treatment.’

As well as sharing her ill-timed bus stop picture, Paige also documented her day at Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday with an array of other snaps.

The paramedic flaunted her enviable figure in a pink halter-neck wrap-around dress with a daring cut out as she made the most of the festivities.

She opted for a full-coverage bronzed make-up palette and styled her dark tresses in glamorous waves, while she fixed pink sunglasses on her head.

Paige was seen getting into the partying spirit with her Love Island co-star Antigoni, 26, and a group of their pals.

The group were seen dancing and singing amid the crowds as they listened to music during the festivities.

Antigoni cut a glamorous figure in a blue mini skirt with a matching halter-neck wrap-around top as she enjoyed the carnival with Paige.

Notting Hill Carnival is the largest street carnival in Europe and an estimated two million people are expected to attend over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend. 

The carnival first started in 1966, when about 1,000 people attended, and is a popular way for African and Caribbean communities to celebrate their culture and traditions.

Yesterday kicked off with members of the Emancipated Run Crew – dressed in green in tribute to those who died at Grenfell – beginning the parade and marking the official launch of Notting Hill Carnival.

Crowds of young children blowing whistles danced down the streets with their parents in tow. 

Co-founder of the club Jules Stephenson said: ‘It (the atmosphere) is electric – everyone is so excited about carnival being back.’
