For golf influencer Paige Spiranac, one of the biggest takeaways from Michael Block’s phenomenal and inspiring PGA Championship performance seems to be a perceived lack of romance between him and his wife.

As the entire golfing world scrambled to glory at the final round at Oak Hill in Rochester, Block rode that wave of support to finish tied for 15th in the tournament.

He had several magical moments – including a special slam-dunk hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole – that automatically qualified him for next year’s PGA Championship in Valhalla.

At the end of it all on the 18th green, Block’s wife Val approached him with arms outstretched as the man and woman embraced.

But on her podcast To playSpiranac said she felt like Block was denying his wife a kiss at the time.

“I’m just saying, if I’m on camera and I go over to my husband, and I go in for a hug, and I put my head up, go for a kiss, and they just make me refuse a kiss in being in front of all these people on camera, I would get into that later,” she said.

“Not just later that day, but every day for the rest of our lives until we die. We’ll lie side by side on our deathbeds saying, “Remember that moment when you didn’t kiss me on camera?” That would be the last thing I would ever say.’

It’s likely Block wasn’t thinking about that at the time, having won the tournament’s Low Professional title and taking home nearly $300,000 for his spectacular finish.

“My life has changed, but my life has only changed for the better,” said Block. ‘I have my family. I have my friends. I have the people here who really love and care about me. It’s been an epic experience.”

He has a chance to make even more money as he prepares for the Charles Schwab Challenge in Colonial, Texas. Block earned a sponsorship waiver to participate in the tournament.
