Paedophile teaching assistant who sent schoolgirls ‘sex questionnaire’ is jailed for two years

A pedophile teaching assistant who sent schoolgirls a ‘sex questionnaire’ asking if they were virgins, what their bra size was and what they wore to bed has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Kevin Doxey sent the girls a series of sexually explicit messages while she was teaching at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, a court has heard.

The 27-year-old also sent a photo of his genitals to one of the victims, along with a winking emoji and a message that read ‘wish you were here’, Derby Crown Court was told.

In victim statements read in court by two of the girls in person, one of them recounted how she tried to take her own life because of what he had done to her.

Doxey pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual communication with a child.

Recorder Graham Huston jailed him for two years, saying, “I deal with you as a persistent sexual predator who used his position of trust to exploit their vulnerabilities.

“You tampered with the minds of these young women and you knew what you were doing was illegal because you had full security training.

“I review very carefully the testimonials and personal victim impact statements of each accuser. You’ve done them all real damage.’

Laura Blackband, prosecutor, said police got involved when one of the schoolgirls told her parents about sexually explicit messages Doxey sent her.

More victims were subsequently identified after officers seized and analyzed his phone.

The prosecution said: “He obtained the Snapchat data of four girls who were all at the school and sent a series of sexually charged messages to each of them.

“The communication contained a ‘sex questionnaire’ with a large number of questions that we believe could have led to possible sexual activity.

“(Victim one) was 15 and she was very upset by the questions. He asked her to choose a number and let her answer the questions.

She initially said no, but when she stayed over, he texted her a (sexually explicit) photo of himself with a winking emoji and three kisses. She showed it to one of her friends and she said ‘you have to tell someone’.

Ms Blackband said the victim then told her parents and the police got involved and arrested Doxey and evidence was collected from his phone relating to three more victims.

She said that each of them was interviewed and related how the defendant also sent them the questionnaire.

A second victim revealed how Doxey asked her “weird things” via Snapchat, saying he passed his driving test and could come pick her up, and asked her if she was still a virgin, the court heard.

Ms Blackband said a third girl described being sent ‘inappropriate’ Instagram messages by the defendant.

She said: ‘In the questionnaire he asked questions like her bra size and ‘what do you wear to bed?’. She said she didn’t want to answer any of the questions, but he replied “you have to.”

Miss Blackband said the latest victim told police she too had been given the sex questionnaire which she ignored but the defendant harassed her asking ‘are you going to answer that?’.

She said that when the allegations emerged, Doxey was initially suspended and then went to work at a supermarket.

Supported by their families, two of the four girls read their victim impact statements to the court.

One of them said, “I was in school, a place where I felt safe and confident and all of that was taken from me by an authority figure. I was a child, he was an adult, a teacher.’

The second victim who read her statement related how she attempted suicide, adding, “Kevin was one of the main causes of this. I saw him recently in Morrisons in Belper, I didn’t know he worked there and it brought back memories and I had to leave the shop’.

Mrs. Blackband read the remaining two statements. One of them said: ‘I was just a child then, when I look back on it now it was shocking’.

The fourth said, “School was supposed to be a safe place, but Kevin took that away from me.”

Doxey, of Cromford Road, Wirksworth, told police the sexually explicit photo was sent to his girlfriend, but when his phone was seized and analysed, police “looked at thousands of messages between them and not one was of a sexual nature”.

He later pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual communication with a child and has no previous convictions.

Dan Scothern, mitigating, said his client now works for a company called Clear Group and “understands the seriousness of what he had done.”

He said: ‘In his words, ‘I understand what I have done and the enormous amount of damage I have done, not only to the victims, but also to their families and my family’. He says, “If I could go back and change everything, I would.”

The defendant will also be on the sex offender registry for 10 years and was given a 10-year sexual assault prevention order.
