“Words cannot even describe the immense amount of love, kindness, compassion, humor, sportsmanship, knowledge, reliability, consideration for others, sincerity, loyalty and kindness that Julius possesses,” Jasmine wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

“He’s the best younger brother I could ever wish for and the most wonderful older brother to my younger sisters. He always lights up a room with his loving and warm energy.

“He’s always been great on and off the football and lacrosse field and a phenomenal supportive teammate. He always knows how to make me laugh, even on the hardest days.

“Anyone who gets the chance to interact with Julius and all his achievements in this life is blessed. It was hard to accept this tragic event and look at it in a positive way, but instead of mourning I would rather celebrate his 17 wonderful and beautiful years on this earth and all the impact he has had on my life, my families, his colleagues and teammates, teachers, coaches and everyone who has ever met him.

“Julius’s caring and supportive qualities have supported me throughout my life. I am beyond proud to be his sister and best friend.

“I miss him more than anyone can ever imagine, but the knowledge that Julius’ lovely soul is in the hands of God comforts me. The way life works through God and our guardian angels is sometimes not the outcome we want or would ever expect.

“I don’t have the direct answers to why something like this would suddenly happen and I don’t know if I’ll ever get the exact answer. I trust that God, the universe and all higher powers will see to it that Julius will be taken care of and that he will be here to watch over and comfort my family.”

Serve, Julius’ soccer coach, told the LA Times that his player declined to discuss health-related matters during his visit this week.

“He didn’t want to talk about his health,” Serve said. “He wanted to talk about football. We talked about him coming back on the field. I texted last night (Tuesday) to let him know, “I love you.” This morning (Wednesday) I got the news.’

Westlake was scheduled to play Thousand Oaks on Friday, and according to Brady, his son – through Slate – would have wanted his teammates to participate in the game.

Westlake High principal Jason Branham also sent an email confirming the news to the school community in Thousand Oaks, CA.
