Packers donate $100,000 worth of defibrillators to schools and sports leagues in Green Bay area after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest on field

The Green Bay Packers have donated $100,000 worth of automated external defibrillators to schools and recreational sports leagues in the Green Bay area following the cardiac arrest suffered by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

The New Orleans Saints made a similar donation to 67 local youth sports facilities after the Hamlin incident.

Hamlin is “taking one small step at a time” as he tries to recover from going into cardiac arrest against the Bengals, coach Sean McDermott has revealed.

“After seeing Damar Hamlin’s shocking cardiac arrest and witnessing the incredible response from first responders and the medical professionals who treated him, we recognized our responsibility to take action in our own community,” Packers executive Mark Murphy said.

‘Damar’s injury also reminds us that cardiac emergencies are experienced every day throughout the country and our region.

“We are proud to be working with Bellin Health to equip more sports facilities and organizations with AEDs, as well as the tools and skills they need to save a life.”

The team collaborated with their official healthcare provider, Bellin Health, to donate money for 80 AED devices that normally cost around $1,000 each.

Many sporting venues are not equipped with life-saving devices, and teams like the Packers and Saints are making efforts to change that.

Once each facility receives their device, Bellin Health plans to send representatives to ensure multiple organizations are properly trained to use them.

“We are so grateful to the Green Bay Packers for this incredible donation of life-saving equipment to the communities we serve,” said Bellin Health President Chris Woleske.

“Access to this equipment combined with education on how to provide help in a cardiac emergency has been shown to save lives.”

Saints & Pelicans owner Gayle Benson also made a similar donation to local youth facilities.

Hamlin collapsed on the field at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati 16 days ago after facing Bengals WR Tee Higgins.

Hamlin received CPR in the field and was then taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was placed in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

After a series of tests and several days, Hamlin had his breathing tube removed and was awake and responding to doctors.

Hamlin, who met with his teammates on Saturday and toasted their wild card playoff win against the Dolphins from home, is now back in the building taking “baby steps” on his way to a full recovery.
