Pacific Highway crash at Charmhaven: New details emerge after teen boy dies

A teenage girl is being held by police after she allegedly fled a car crash that killed her younger brother. Witnesses describe her harrowing cries for help in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

According to police, the pair were driving on the Pacific Highway in Charmhaven when the car left the road and crashed into a tree around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

They said the 19-year-old woman was behind the wheel and fled the scene of the crash on foot before being found and taken to Gosford Hospital under police guard.

Her 17-year-old brother, who was in the passenger seat, died at the scene.

“Speed appears to have been a factor in the accident,” New South Wales police Inspector David Piddington said.

‘The road is there to be driven, you have to adapt to the conditions and if you kept to the speed limits, we would not have had this accident today.’

A witness said he heard the woman screaming for help shortly after the crash.
