The owner of fast-running Shiba Inu, Peanut Butter, has revealed the secret behind the good boy's success.
In a recent one interview with IGN, Peanut Butter's owner JSR – who streams his own speedruns on Twitch alongside the dog – revealed the technique he and his pet use to achieve the best times in games like Dr. Mario.
JSR explained that when he first started training Peanut Butter, he had to practice daily for a year with his canine friend pressing the correct buttons on command on a custom controller. Although Peanut Butter was eventually able to pick up on these movements, JSR had to use his food as a bribe to keep the Shiba's attention. String cheese was a particular favorite of this very good boy.
JSR also learned to play Peanut Butter Wild shooterlike Excite bike And Dr. Mario. The streamer explained that he trains the Shiba Inu to play alongside himself for these specific titles with a single controller.
“The big limitation with him – don't tell anyone, it's a secret – but he doesn't really watch the game,” JSR said. 'He responds to my commands. Everything he inputs must be his response to my commands, plus my response. So games like Mario Bros. or other types of genres don't really work because then it's a very complicated, complicated arrangement for us to do the input. And usually we're already dead by then.
“But… we're looking for ideas, and so far we're still scratching the bottom of the barrel, but there will be a number of other games to come. This won't be the only time he appears. We certainly intend for him to be a staple of GDQ going forward.”
Last October, it was announced that Peanut Butter would be attempting a puzzle game from 1985 Gyromite for the Nintendo Entertainment System Great games done quickly's upcoming AGDQ 2024 event on January 18, 2024.
At the time, there was no official speedrunning category for dogs, but JSR explained that a new “dog aid” category was later listed and Peanut Butter officially entered the Gyromite category: “Game B – Dog Assistance – NES.”
