Overwatch 2The game’s newest hero, Mauga, coming in Season 8, was just announced at Blizzcon and there’s a lot for fans to look forward to.
Mauga looks like a strong addition to the tank roster Overwatch 2. Mauga is equipped with dual miniguns as her primary weapon and backs this up with a frontline-breaking power called Overrun and a destructive ultimate ability called Cage Fight.
Can’t wait to try it out? Don’t worry, the upcoming character will be made playable in a free trial this weekend from November 3 to 5, and will be coming to all game modes once Blizzcon’s conference concludes.
Overwatch 2 hasn’t received a new Tank Hero since Ramattra was added in Season 2, so Tank Mains is looking for something new. Mauga criticizes burning heroes, and most of his abilities are all about fighting and advancing and feels incredibly combative. He is also the game’s first Samoan hero, and Mauga means Mountain in Samoan. However, not only is he big – he is big – but he is also a cunning tactician.
Its abilities are as follows:
- Chaingun combo – Mauga has two chain guns that he dual-wields (affectionately named ‘Gunny’ and ‘Cha-Cha’) that he can combine to devastating effect
- Flooded – this is Mauga’s unstoppable offensive ability, allowing him to burst through enemy lines
- Cardiac overdrive – an ability that allows Mauga to take less damage, but also regain health by dealing damage
- Cage fight – This is Mauga’s ultimate ability and gives you unlimited ammunition and allows you to hurt others in close combat by trapping them in a combat ring.
Mauga has previously appeared in this first-person shooter lore. He was a heavy assault fighter for Talon and was comrades with Baptiste before the support hero switched to the good side. He is said to be skilled in close combat, with Baptiste describing him as “like a demon”. Hopefully this means Mauga’s secondary weapon will do some serious damage up close.
Many longtime fans won’t be surprised if Mauga is added Overwatch 2. This new tank hero was initially planned to be added in 2019 as Hero 31, according to a now-deleted interview with former Blizzard vice president Jeff Kaplan. This spot instead went to the fearsome scientist Sigma.
The switch was made once Overwatch 2‘s lead designer, Geoff Goodman, and associate designer Joshua Noh decided that the kit created did not suit Mauga’s personality. Fans have been waiting for its arrival ever since, and after the newest map in Season 7, Samoa (Mauga’s homeland), was added, the tank’s arrival seemed like a foregone conclusion.
