Overwatch 2 team admits “getting bombed is not a fun experience”
Blizzard has acknowledged the player’s “dissatisfaction” afterwards Overlook 2 was bombarded into obscurity by reviews when it was released on Steam last month, it quickly became the game with the lowest user score ever on Steam.
The overall user score has dropped steadily since the game was released and now sits at a stingy 0.94 out of 10, which is lower than games like Redfall, eFootball, And Battlefield 2042all of which received equally unfavorable feedback from players upon release.
“We launched on Steam last week, and while it’s not a fun experience to be bombarded with reviews, it’s been great to see so many new players jump into Overwatch 2 for the first time,” said Blizzard’s Aaron Keller, writing about the games official website. “Our goal with Overwatch 2 was to make the game more accessible to more people than ever before.”
Keller states that “many of the reviews on Steam cite the cancellation of the much larger chunk of PvE announced in 2019 as one of their top reasons for dissatisfaction with the game” and says he “understands that”.
“That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ended up not being able to deliver on,” added Keller.
But since they can’t “turn back the clock”, what can the team do? Keller thinks the only solution is to “move forward”.
“We can keep expanding and improving Overwatch 2. That’s how we go forward. This means more maps, heroes, game modes, missions, stories, events, cool cosmetics and features – an ever-growing, evolving and improving game. This is the future of Overwatch, a future where we will constantly create and innovate to make the game great for the players who play now.
“Overwatch is such a unique game and world. When our heroes all work together to achieve a goal, nothing beats it. Jump in – there’s more to come!”
