After years of requests from Overwatch fans, Blizzard is releasing the Pink Mercy skin released in 2018 as part of the ‘Mercy for a Cause’ charity campaign with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That skin raised $12.7 million in proceeds six years ago, during its two-week availability period, and Overwatch players who missed it the first time have long begged for its return.
Later this month, Blizzard will make the Pink Mercy skin available for purchase again Overwatch 2. And just like in 2018, the entire purchase proceeds will be donated to life-saving breast cancer research.
The original Pink Mercy skin will cost $15 – the same price it sold for in 2018 – and will be joined by a new variant of that skin, Rose Gold Mercy, pictured above. This latest skin will be available in a bundle for $20. These charity cosmetics will be available from June 25 to July 8.
The original “Mercy for a Cause” campaign led to the largest donation ever to BCRF, the organization said in a news release. Blizzard and the BCRF said in a press release that they hope to repeat that success with the relaunch of the Pink Mercy skin.
“Blizzard is pleased to once again partner with BCRF to bring attention and funding to such an important cause,” Johanna Faries, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a statement. “Overwatch recently passed the 100 million player milestone, and we hope our amazing community will rally once again to help support BCRF’s vital work as we showcase these beautiful skins in the game.”
“Overwatch launched one of gaming’s first charitable partnerships seven years ago with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation – their innovation in the gaming industry reflects the innovation BCRF is driving in research to eradicate breast cancer,” said BCRF President and CEO Donna McKay in a statement declaration. “Thanks to the unprecedented funds raised from passionate gamers in 2018, we also launched the first initiative designed to identify exactly how to prevent breast cancer in each individual person – what we’ve called the Precision Prevention Initiative (PPI) . We are at a critical turning point as the incidence of breast cancer continues to rise and more work remains to be done. We are excited to renew this partnership to see how together we can continue to drive change and save lives.”
Overwatch 2 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series
