Outspoken football expert Lucy Zelic reveals Sam Kerr’s biggest mistake as her three-word alleged racist slur to police officer is revealed

  • The 30-year-old Matildas captain was charged on January 21
  • Reportedly racially harassed police officer in London
  • The alleged incident took place during a drunken night out

Football pundit Lucy Zelic has revealed Sam Kerr’s biggest mistake following her alleged three-word racist slur against a British police officer in January last year.

Zelic, an Australian TV presenter, said on ABC Radio that the Matildas captain had been wrong not to tell Football Australia and the national side about what allegedly happened after a drunken night out in London on January 30 last year.

It is understood Kerr – a multi-million dollar athlete and arguably Australia’s most important sportswoman – got into an argument with the agent over a taxi fare.

“As a player (and captain) of the national team, she has a duty to inform Football Australia of such incidents,” Zelic told the newspaper. ABC.

“She should have reported it.”

Zelic, an Australian TV presenter, said on ABC Radio that the Matildas captain (pictured) had been wrong not to reveal to Football Australia what allegedly happened after a night out in London.

However, Zelic dismissed rumors that 30-year-old Kerr should be stripped of the Matildas captaincy.

“There are some important factors to consider…Sam has pleaded not guilty and should receive a fair trial,” she said.

‘What concerns me most is that Sam has been branded a racist by some people on her own Instagram page… her mental health is vital, she has had to endure more than most.’

Zelic referred to Kerr’s World Cup on home soil, which was hampered by injury and that she recently tore her cruciate ligament during a Chelsea training camp in Morocco.

As a result, Kerr will be sidelined for at least nine months and will miss the Paris Olympics in July.

It comes as the Chelsea forward – who has scored 99 career goals for the Blues – appeared in court earlier this week accused of using abusive, threatening or insulting words which alarmed the officer in Twickenham, south-west London or caused suffering.

Kerr (pictured with fiancée Kristie Mewis) has yet to publicly comment on the matter as she continues to recover from an ACL injury she suffered in January.

Kerr’s lawyers will seek to have the charges dropped when the case returns to court next month.

If that doesn’t work, there will be a four-day trial period from February 2, 2025.

The target machine is said to have called the agent a ‘dumb white PC’ – a claim Kerr denies.

Hours before the alleged incident, Kerr was on cloud nine after scoring a hat-trick for Chelsea against Liverpool in the FA Cup as the Blues won 3-2.
