The Texas mother of a 12-year-old boy arrested after nearly killing a 59-year-old woman after stabbing her has apologized to the victim and her family, claiming “he is struggling with mental health issues.”
The shocking attack took place outside her Houston home on Saturday afternoon, during which the woman was stabbed several times in the abdomen.
‘I’m sorry for the family. I am very sorry that my son committed this incident. And I pray for your health, for your well-being,” the boy’s mother said Click2Houston.
‘He has some mental problems. My son, he’s struggling with his mental issues,” she continued, seemingly downplaying his violent outburst. ‘But he’s just a boy. They all are – and we all learn from our mistakes.”
The boy remains in police custody, while his younger brother, seven, who was sitting next to him at the time, remains at large as he was deemed not guilty.

Footage from a surveillance camera at a neighbor’s home shows the shorter boy wearing blue gloves and the taller boy in a red hoodie with black gloves walking into the woman’s driveway.
‘I regret it a lot because I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone. We just have to keep praying for both my family and their family,” the mother said Monday.
According to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbed woman suffers from mental illness and got into an argument with the two boys on Saturday around 2 p.m.
The children initially rode away on their bikes, but CCTV footage from a neighbour’s house showed them returning about twelve minutes later.
Video showed the smaller boy wearing blue gloves and a white shirt, while the older, taller boy in a red hoodie with black gloves walked into the woman’s driveway.
The boy in a red hoodie is then seen pulling an object from his pants and running into the garage.
According to his mother, the boy is doing well despite being in custody.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released a motive for the stabbing.

“Never did any of us think it would be neighborhood kids coming in and attacking her,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified KTRK.
“If they have the opportunity to do that to an older woman who clearly has mental health issues after our neighbor down the road tells them, ‘Hey, leave her alone.’ It’s a concern.’
The woman’s brother arrived at her home shortly after the stabbing and was able to call for help.
“Her brother came by to check on her; he checks on her daily. “That’s when he came at just the right time, opened the door and saw she had been stabbed,” said Sergio Torres, an investigator with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
She was transported to the hospital via Life Flight and underwent surgery.
Senior Deputy Thomas M. Gilliland told DailyMail.com on Monday that the victim is recovering at a local hospital.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the 12-year-old was charged Sunday with aggravated assault and is being held by the Harris County Juvenile Department.
