Mexican fast food chain Guzman y Gomez (GYG) has announced it is discontinuing its popular shredded shitake mushroom filling.
The decision has sparked outrage among vegetarian customers, who have seen the filling as a fast favorite since its launch in 2021.
GYG confirmed the news and expressed regret over the removal of the beloved mushroom filling.
The chain's spokesperson said: 'Unfortunately, our Shredded Mushroom filling has been removed from menus.'
“We hope you can take advantage of our amazing sautéed vegetable filling!”
Guzman y Gomez has confirmed it has removed shredded mushrooms from its menus, sparking anger and devastation among customers.
As the news spread, fans of the shredded mushroom filling flooded Guzman y Gomez's social media platforms with pleas for them to reconsider the decision.
“Bring back the mushroom filling. It's the only thing I order, and I order every week.'
Another expressed disbelief, saying: “I can't believe we're out of mushroom filling. It was so good.'
One particularly heartbroken person added a touch of humor, saying, “I don't know who decided to take the shredded mushrooms off the menu, but I hope your pillow is warm on both sides!”

In response to the public outcry, GYG released a statement explaining that menu items, including refills, are reviewed regularly.
“Unfortunately, our shredded mushroom filling did not sell enough at this time to remain on our menu,” the report said.
'GYG is working on new menu items in our test kitchen that are even more delicious, so we hope to have some new menu innovations for our guests to try soon! Watch this space!'
