Outrage as several KFC stores in Australia have run out of cash
- A KFC branch in Morisset has run out of cash
- It joins stores in Lakehaven and North Wyong
An increasing number of KFC stores are no longer accepting cash, sparking outrage among customers who share concerns that the country will run out of cash.
A KFC branch in Morisset, a suburb of the town of Lake Macquarie, NSW, has become the fast food chain’s latest store to operate cashless.
A sign has been placed outside the store to inform customers about the switch to debit card only.
“This restaurant is cashless. We only accept card,” it said.
The store joins branches in Lakehaven and North Wyong which are also cashless.
More and more KFC stores are no longer accepting cash, which has sparked outrage among customers
It has resulted in a backlash from Aussies, with many on social media debating the move.
“I thought this wasn’t allowed and that cash would be accepted everywhere,” one person wrote.
“How long do you think it will take for all stores and everything in between to stop cash transactions?”
The ACCC states: ‘Businesses can choose which payment methods they accept. It is legal for a business not to accept cash.”
‘However, companies must be clear and upfront about the types of payments they accept, and the overall minimum price to be paid for their goods and services.’
