‘Incredible!’ Outrage on awakening Oregon social workers use PREFERENCE PRONOUNS as warning for three missing brothers aged just 7, 4 and TWO
- The Oregon Department of Human Services has been criticized for citing preferred pronouns instead of the sex of three missing children
- Child Welfare Division media leaflets included ‘he/him’ pronouns alongside other descriptors such as age and hair color
The Oregon Department of Human Services has been criticized for citing preferred pronouns instead of the gender of three missing children.
Brothers Brantley Hinson, 7, Logan Hinson, 4, and River Hinson, two, went missing on June 17 and authorities said they had reason to believe they were in danger. reported KTVL.
The ODHS’s Child Welfare Division appealed for public assistance to find the missing children who they speculated could be in Oregon, Idaho or Alaska, and provided descriptions of the children.
In the identifying descriptions, the division included “he/him” pronouns alongside other descriptions such as age and hair color, a move that was called “unbelievable.”
The children were found with their mother Stephanie Lloyd on June 28, and the Child Welfare Division thanked the community for supporting the search.

Preferred pronouns are used to indicate that a person is friendly towards transgender or non-binary people, whose gender may not match their appearance – or be obvious in the first place.
One social media user said the use of the children’s gender identity was “incredible” and normalized gender self-identification.
These 3 little boys are missing, and instead of listing their gender as part of their description, their preferred pronouns are listed instead. Unbelievable’ the user, who goes by the handle @Kriscilicious, wrote on Twitter.
Addition: ‘As if people are supposed to search for preferred pronouns. No, they’re looking for little boys. It’s just another way for them to try and normalize this, but at the cost of finding these kids.”

Other users agreed, with one writing under the post, “Pronouns have never helped a detective solve a case. Ridiculous.’
Others, however, did not object to their inclusion, Maggie Ryan commented, “There are three little boys missing and you are triggered by paperwork with pronouns.” That’s the incredible thing here.’
The Oregon Department of Human Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
