The family of a 13-year-old Aboriginal boy fear he will be scarred for life after he claimed he was beaten by a police dog while handcuffed and defenseless.

Jayden Abraham was arrested on Sunday night as police responded to an alleged crime spree in Bentley and St James, south of Perth.

The boy’s lover claims he was handcuffed and sitting on the ground when the dog bit him on the face, neck and arms, but police deny that.

Deputy Commissioner Kylie Whiteley told the Western Australian Body-worn CCTV footage from the arrests did not show the boy in restraints, but did admit that the boy was injured by the dog.

Jayden’s aunt Shara Abraham told Daily Mail Australia she is furious that he is scarred for “the rest of his life”.

She hopes Jayden will be out of the hospital by the end of the week, but the doctors are unable to say when he will be released.

“We don’t like seeing him like this, it hurts because that’s our baby and he’s too small to go through something so painful and traumatizing,” Shara told the paper. ABC.

“He’s only just 13, he still has a lot ahead of him in life. We just want answers right away.’

Police responded to 10 separate calls that night involving three youths and an adult breaking into cars and homes across the area.

Officers also received reports that they threatened others on the street.

One of the “breakdowns at different addresses” involved a man in his 50s who was threatened with a knife in the backyard of his home, police said.

Authorities left with a canine unit at 11:40 p.m. and eventually arrested three youths, including Jayden, and an adult.

“One of the young men suffered injuries during the arrest as a result of using dogs,” police said.

Jayden was taken to the Perth Children’s Hospital for treatment, as a 21-year-old man was charged with theft and weaponization in a manner likely to cause fear.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 8 December 2022.

But all three youths have been released “pending further investigation” as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, images of Jayden bandaged in hospital have been met with anger on social media.

Deputy Commissioner Whiteley said WA police will soon release footage captured on the body-worn cameras, adding that there is no evidence officers have done anything wrong.

“The use of dogs is subject to the requirements for the use of force by the police,” she said.

“It is standard practice to review the use of canine drugs when used during arrests,” police said.

Anyone with information about this incident, or who was themselves a victim of crime in the Bentley/St James area on Sunday evening, is urged to contact WA Police.
