Outrage over dropping of police investigation into bakery who made Hamas-themed cake for kid’s birthday: ‘Ignoring extremism’

Police have dropped their investigation into a bakery that made a Hamas-themed birthday cake for a four-year-old’s party, despite a state premier branding the incident “horrific.”

Oven Bakery by Fufu, based in Sydney’s western suburb of Auburn, baked the cake and similar cupcakes decorated with Hamas symbols and an image of the terrorist group’s masked spokesman Abu Obaida.

Images of the cake, which featured the name of a boy who said he was four, were posted on social media and then referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who have now said the baked goods did not break any laws.

An AFP spokesperson told Sky News that the footage had been passed to New South Wales police a month ago before being passed on to the federal agency and that they had determined there was “no breach of the law.” Commonwealth legislation’.

Jewish leaders expressed outrage at the decision.

Robert Gregory, CEO of the Australian Jewish Association, told Sky News it was “disappointing but not at all surprising” that authorities were willing to allow “brainwashing” of young children in support of terrorism.

“It’s one thing for politicians to use strong words against extremism, but time and time again we see authorities failing to take action,” Gregory said.

“This lack of action once again sends a clear message of weakness to Islamic radicals.

“Many Australians will wonder whether our security forces are asleep or whether they are knowingly ignoring Islamic extremism.

‘The problem will not go away. Ignoring the growing Islamist extremism in our suburbs means Australians are heading for challenging times.”

Alex Ryvchin, co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), told The Australian the bakery and the child’s parents should be held responsible for “glorifying extremism”.

“It takes a rare form of psychosis to want to teach young children that Hamas terrorists are to be admired and emulated,” Mr. Ryvchin said.

Earlier, NSW Premier Chris Minns called the incident “horrific” and said children’s parties should be “innocent and fun, not hateful”.

Originally, Oven Bakery by Fufu’s Instagram account featured a photo of the birthday cake with a Next to it, a camouflage-wearing child poses, his face masked in a keffiyeh, making the same hand gesture as Obaida.

Partygoers were also served Hamas-themed cupcakes and the event was decorated with Palestinian flag streamers and balloons.

Following backlash, the bakery deleted its Instagram account but has since reinstated it without the controversial cakes.

The report’s two most recent messages express support for the Palestinians in the bloody conflict with Israel that has ravaged Gaza since Hamas launched terror attacks on the Jewish state on October 7 last year.

The bakery has been contacted for comment.
