Outnumbered is back! Beloved BBC drama returns for a Christmas special 10 years after the series ended

Outnumbered has announced that the much-loved BBC drama will return this Christmas ten years after the end of the series with a special one-off episode.

The show’s child stars previously sent fans into a frenzy when they reunited nine years after the hit show ended in October, sparking rumors of a reunion.

And now it’s been confirmed that the Brockman’s are back for a Christmas special where viewers will find out what’s happened to the family over the past decade.

During this time, it’s revealed that one of the Brockman children has welcomed a child of their own in a brief synopsis for the upcoming episode.

It follows the chaos in Pete and Sue Brockman’s downsized home as they grapple with children who are now grown and left to live their own lives.

The stars from the original series return for the special, including Hugh Dennis as father Pete, Claire Skinner as mother Sue, Tyger Drew-Honey as eldest son Jake, Daniel Roche as middle child Ben and Ramona Marquez as daughter, Karen.

In a moment of adversity, Sue and Pete gather all their descendants (including one grandchild) to try to celebrate a traditional family Christmas. But fate, neighbors, hyenas and bus replacement services stand in their way.

Hugh Dennis says: ‘I can’t wait for the Brockmans to get back together. Pete and Sue have gotten smaller, the kids aren’t kids anymore, but I’m sure family life will be as chaotic as ever.’

Claire Skinner said: “I’m really looking forward to being reunited with my TV family. Working on this wonderful BBC comedy doesn’t feel like work and is one of the greatest joys for us all.”

Jon Petrie, director of BBC Comedy, said: ‘Outnumbered is one of the crown jewels of British sitcoms. We are extremely grateful to Guy, Andy, Hattrick and the cast for dusting it off and putting it back on display.”

Fans were delighted by the news that the British sitcom is ready for a big festive return and shared their excitement on social media.

The child stars of Outnumbered previously sent fans into a frenzy when they reunited nine years after the hit show ended in October.

Ramona, 23, took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes photos of a secret project with older on-screen brothers Tyger, 28, and Daniel, 24.

The post sparked questions from fans asking if a new series was on the way, while he gave more clues on Tyger’s Instagram.

The actor, who played Jake Brockman in the hit BBC series, wrote: ‘Great to be back with the fam for #comicrelief – if you can’t tell, these boys are legends. Apologies for the lack of activity here. I’ll handle it. #outnumbered #grateful #family’.

Followers took to the comments section and begged the trio to bring the show back.

“Outnumbered needs to come back!!,” one follower wrote.

Others added: “Do you need a one-off episode of you all being adults now” and “are you filming something???”

However, when a follower asked if Outnumbered would be brought back for good, Tyger replied: “I don’t think so, mate.”

Outnumbered was watched by 9.4 million viewers at its peak and ran for five series in 2016, including a one-off Christmas special.

The show revolved around a middle-class family living in London as teacher Pete (Hugh) and personal assistant Sue (Claire) struggled to balance their careers with their unruly children.

In 2018, the on-screen parents shocked fans when they revealed they had been dating for more than a year after the breakdown of their marriage.

The pair opened up about their romance to The Mail On Sunday and spoke about their happiness in real life after it emerged they have been dating since 2017.

Comedian Hugh confirmed the romance and said he was ‘very happy’ after finding love with Clockwork Mice star Claire.

‘I am very, very happy, we are so happy. It’s fun and yes, it’s so beautiful,” he said at the time.
