Outlander’s second half of season 7 FINALLY gets release date – setting off wave of frustrated fans to vent over 15 month ‘Droughtlander’
Foreigner fans have been eagerly awaiting news of when Claire, Jamie and the rest of their beloved characters will be back for the second half of season seven.
After a hiatus of more than seven months, playfully dubbed “Droughtlander” by fans as well as the cast and crew, Starz and Sony announced the show would return in November in an Instagram post with photos of the next eight new episodes.
“Just a few of our favorites behind the scenes during the production of Season 7, Part 2,” the caption reads, before the big reveal: “#Outlander officially returns to STARZ this November.”
That’s another eight-month wait, which translates to a fifteen-month hiatus by the time the premiere for the second half of season seven hits the small screen.
For the most part, fans of the wildly popular drama based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series are not happy and have taken to the comments section to vent their frustration.

‘November for 7b?!?!?! That’s so disappointing. To promote a supersized S7, give us the second half of it fifteen months later,” one fan shared, summing up the vitriol being shared on social media and the internet.
‘Over a year since the first half is not a ‘half’, but another season!’ declared another disgruntled fan, while another simply wrote: ‘November 2024? Ridiculous. Just ridiculous.’
It seems that many think that long waits are part of a cash grab to get people to pay their monthly subscriptions.
“Marketing Season 8 as a 16-episode epic season was not only deceitful, but deceitful,” seemed to be another popular sentiment.
Some people took the time to explain exactly why they were so angry at the people at Starz and Sony for setting the release date eight months from now.
“It’s annoying because it’s not even a new season, it’s the second half of another season that aired over a year ago,” one woman argued. “When they do this, it doesn’t build anticipation, it makes us forget about the storylines, and sometimes even the show itself.”
‘NOVEMBER??? That’s not the second part of season 7, that’s over a year between 7A and 7B!!! That’s a completely different season right now. That didn’t happen during the season 1 hiatus, that only lasted a few months!!!’ another female fan complained. “STARZ, you do NOT care about the long-time fans of this franchise and you have made a grave mistake by stringing us along when we know season 7 is complete and in the can.
She added: “Don’t blame this on the strike!! If the plan is to make us maintain our STARZ subscription for months on end for 7B so you can slot in BOMB before we even get the rest of Season 7, this strategy will backfire big time. Nobody is happy with this decision. I bet your talent isn’t happy about it either. They’re ready for a satisfying ending (for the fans’ sake) and the freedom to move on to other things. STARZ something is rotten in your headquarters, shame on you.”
The announcement also includes an emotional scene with Sophie Skelton (Brianna Fraser MacKenzie) and Rosa Morris (Mandy Fraser MacKenzie) in the 1980s.

It seems like more than a few people are already canceling their subscriptions as a form of protest.
One person wrote, “Okay, I just canceled my Starz subscription. If we all keep doing it, maybe they’ll give it to us in the summer!’
Another fan added, “That’s another seven months of paying for STARZ. I do not think so. At this point, I really don’t care what happens to them.”
Amid all the negative reactions to the news of the latest Droughlander, there are some fans who are just happy to know that new episodes are coming before the show ends after season eight.
‘No complaints here! I’m in no rush for this beloved show to end, so I’ll wait as long as I need to! Thanks for the announcement! I can’t wait until November!’ one of the many loyal followers shared.
“You’ve been complaining to these poor hard working people for months about not having a release date and now you finally get that release date and you’re complaining about it,” wrote one proponent of three delays. ‘Why don’t we just celebrate that we’re getting new episodes and that we finally know when! Many loyal Outlander fans are venting about the delay of the second half of season seven, which will translate into a fifteen-month wait known as Droughtlander when it premieres.
Outlander, which premiered on Starz in 2014, will end after season eight
The first half of the seventh season, which consists of eight episodes, premiered on June 16, 2023 and concluded on August 11.
