- James Peatling has picked a new club
- Speculation has surrounded his future at GWS
- The Western Bulldogs had expressed interest in a trade
James Peatling has requested a trade away from GWS after speculation arose that the Western Bulldogs had expressed an interest in acquiring the out-of-contract midfielder.
The Giants picked up the Sydneysider with the eighth pick of the 2021 AFL Mid-season draft, and he has since become a major asset for the club while attracting interest from rival sides around the AFL.
It seemed both the Bulldogs and Collingwood were keen to get the 24-year-old.
Fox Footy has also reported that GWS were planning to tie him down to a long-term deal, but it appears Peatling is keen to enter pastures new.
In a major twist to his contract saga, GWS released a statement regarding Peatling’s future on their club website, writing: ‘Giants midfielder James Peatling has informed the club that he wants to be traded to the Adelaide Crows.’
Journalist Riley Beveridge added on X (formerly Twitter) that the GWS midfielder ‘told the club he is moving to the Crows.’
It comes as the Crows currently hold the Nos. 4, 25, 42 and 60 picks in the national draft.
And it appears they are willing to tie Peatling down to a four-year contract, according to Channel Nine’s Tom Morris, provided a deal can be agreed.
The 24-year-old has had quite a season for the Giants, scoring seven goals and averaging 5.1 tackles in the 19 games he has played in this season.
